COLOR

I've never been a huge fan of color–I think my wardrobe and general demeanor could probably attest to that. However, since experiencing my first autumn in New England, the idea that a sense of harmony can be created using color relationships has definitely been growing on me (I went all-in with adding fern green velvet curtains and terracotta orange shag rugs everywhere). When I found out that my first photo project for Digital Photo II this Spring would focus on color, I had a mixture of excitement and dismay wash over me. Considering the class actually started in winter, I panicked a little because everything here has been overwhelmingly gray. My original intention was to shoot everything in-studio; maybe finally hop on the vegetable pickling train and get some colorful shots in the process. Two problems: 1) I vastly underestimated the process of pickling, and 2) the assignment clearly stated that less points would be awarded if everything was shot in-studio. Naturally, in addition to creating color myself I also had to go looking for it.

Elements of Color focused on monochromatic, spectrum (an array of color), and opposing/ complementary relationships. Here are the three that I submitted:

Shot in Providence, RI. at The Avenue Project

Subject: Monochromatic

Shot in Providence, RI. at The Avenue Project

Subject: Spectrum

Shot In-Studio

Subject: Opposing/ Complementary

Grade still pending, here are some other shots that I like but they didn't make the cut.

Shot at The Avenue Project in Providence, SOWA Vintage Market in Boston, and in-studio.
