PERSONA

I'll be honest, I had no idea what to do for this project. The assignment called for creating "moody" color. Typically, after I've gone through all of the assignment details my brain explodes with near impossible ideas, then I have to start the process of figuring out how to bring my ideas back down to Earth–but not this time. I sat down and did a few preliminary sketches and sadly, I didn't fall in love with any of them. As an added kicker, during the week I had planned on shooting the slipped disc in my lower back flared up again. Woe is me aside, I begrudgingly settled on my sketches and, surprisingly, ended up having a lot of fun.

"Faceless."

Truth be told, "Faceless." was a happy accident. After shooting one of my sketched ideas I decided to play around with different color settings on the LED flood lights that I borrowed from Blue-Man-Patrick. Since the focus is a bit on the soft side I thought an overlay would give a bit more depth. I originally purchased this Film Pack to add a border to "Surprise!" but I decided it was a little too ridiculous. The purchase wasn't an entire waste though, as I ended up using one of the overlays on "Faceless."

Another happy accident, "It's Only A Game" was supposed have a more serious mood. Then this happened...

"It's Only A Game"

Needless to say, my sketches didn't include a butcher's knife and this was the last image of the series that I shot; it's the "let's have fun" one. The biggest challenge was getting the red LED light rich enough while making sure the mirror lights weren't dominating the entire scene. I ended up extremely lucky... I had no idea that the mirror had brightness and tent settings! Extra thanks to Blue-Man-Patrick for being my butcher model.

I turned in two separate images: the hilariously cheesy image titled "It's Only A Game" and the self-portrait titled "Faceless."

Here's "It's Only A Game" with the silly film border that I didn't use:
